[Originally sent via email] You’re receiving this from me because I, Anthony Scarpaci, think you’re pretty great and I’d love to keep you updated in a non-spammy way about what I’m up to about once a quarter.
WHAT I’VE BEEN WORKING ON
This quarter, I officially launched my advising and consulting business, TUNOMATIC! After over 12 years obsessing over growth in-house at amazing brands like Acorns and Nerdwallet, I’ve decided to finally pursue consulting full-time after years of exploring the career path from the sidelines.
The name comes from the 1952 invention of the transformative guitar hardware designed as a bridge to bring the instrument into tune - and that's exactly what I'm trying to be for growth teams in my new practice (just replace "instrument" with growth engine").
So far, I've been working with some incredible people and brands on everything from GTM to marketing measurement. Active clients include:
SurveyMonkey (B2B SaaS)
EarlyBird (B2C Fintech Subscription App)
GoHunt (B2C Subscription & Ecomm App)
Olomon (B2B/B2C Fintech Subscription App)
WHAT I’VE BEEN SHARING
Podcast: I had a great conversation with Maor Sandra, CEO at Incrmntal on his podcast about all things marketing measurement, incrementality, and customer experience. Listen here.
Opportunity Sizing Tool: I developed and shared a Reforge Artifact for marketers to help them evaluate marketing opportunities, and (apologies in advance) introduced a new acronym for it (WYWHTB aka “What You Would Have To Believe”). It is now gated for Reforge members only but just let me know if you’d like access to the template!
Comic: I shared this favorite gem from XKCD on Linkedin as a plea for all the “LinkedInfluencers” out there to be cognizant of their Survivorship Bias in their posts. (Note: It was not effective. Their posts continue to proliferate sadly…)
WHAT I’VE BEEN READING
Indistractable by Nir Eyal: Critical tools and frameworks to stay focused & build traction in your day-to-day work.
The Pathless Path by Paul Millerd: Jam-packed wisdom and inspiration for those jumping off the ladder and pursuing a less traditional career path.
The Wager by David Grann: Incredible true story of mutiny & murder on the high seas. Similar to "Endurance" about the Antarctic Shackleton expedition, it's quite humbling to reflect on what these sailors were able to survive.
Dilla Time by Dan Charnas: Amazing biography & music history about J. Dilla’s influence on rhythm, composition, and music production. Great read for any music fan!
WHAT I’LL LEAVE YOU WITH
I recently completed the second of what may become an annual camping tradition I like to call NatuRoo™, where I take a week to unplug from the world, first on a solo Getaway tiny home in the wilderness (this time in northern Georgia in the Appalachian Mountains) followed by car camping alongside 100,000 other music lovers at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN. I could write a short novel about how recharging these weeks have been for me.
During the first NatuRoo™, I came across this great quote from the book “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” that my parents gave to me when I was in a state of chronic stress at the time.
“A hundred years from now? All new people.”
- Anne Lamott
Whenever I come back to this quote, it has an almost magical power of releasing the unrecognized physical tension I might be carrying in my shoulders, neck, and jaw. It centers me and brings me back to the present moment. Such power in such succinct packaging. Do great and high-impact work, but give yourself a little grace. All things must pass.
Stay kind and stay curious,
Anthony
